Great camera for a low price

I've had several W3 cameras at home that I've used with BlueIris over RTSP over the past few years so contacted Wansview and asked if I could review the W4. Overall, this is a good camera at a great price. Wansview is trying to up its game and promote its cloud offering, but overall it seems its cloud portion is a bit immature and not fully ready for prime time. I had a very hard time connecting the camera to wifi as it refused to scan my phone. Luckily, there is a backup method that allows your phone to connect directly to the camera and transfer the settings as needed. a potentially insecure cloud that could be overseas, so I blocked the camera's access to the internet. Blocking internet access means the native app won't work, and neither will motion detection alerts. If you choose Wansview's cloud services, I found the prices a bit high - $70/year for up to 3 cameras with 7 days of storage, $100/year for 5 cameras with 15 days of storage, and $170/year for up to 15 days . 7 cameras with 30 days of storage. They also offer plans with monthly and quarterly payments, but unfortunately there is no plan for less than 3 cameras. You can get away with the hefty price tag as the initial cost of the camera is much lower than Arlo or Nest. You can use the camera without a cloud service, but it looks like it only continuously stores video recorded based on motion detection for 24 hours. Internet to hosts named cam-tunnel-isc-us.ajcloud.net and cam-gw-isc-us.ajcloud.net via tcp/443 and udp/60722. There may be others that I was unable to capture during testing. Pros: - Overall small body and great picture - Can adjust camera angle manually without small screws like W3 - Comes with mobile app to pair. c-Mounting template included-Long power cord-Ethernet support-RTSP support!-Night vision looks a little better than W3-WiFi works much better than W3 You mount the camera on the ceiling. -No web interface! Since I block access to the internet it means that no settings can be changed after I block it as an application has to be used to configure it. An nmap scan shows that port 80 is open but shows a 403 response. - Very limited settings - For example, you cannot set a local NTP server or custom date/time or change the night vision schedule (automatic or off, may not set a time to turn on/off night vision.) - The timestamp in the The upper right corner of the picture frame cannot be removed and the camera cannot be marked on the frame.

Pros
  • IP66 waterproof rating
Cons
  • Expensive
