I want to talk about the sound signature as I've been using it for live performance, live amplification, listening and recording and mixing in my personal recording studio for 2 years now. I also use the DT770-250 Ohm and AT-M30x reference monitor headphones, which I will compare them to. Accuracy/Quality: The C12's are mostly clean, although the sibilance seems to have added either some kick or a distortion accent (5-7kHz). This can be annoying, but can also be tamed depending on the source sound. The low dynamic driver will be fantastic if you are a live drummer or bassist. He answers taut and dull and doesn't sound harsh. Overall, the sub-area looks solid, but not necessarily complete. Balance/EQ: C12 NOT flat. The middle of the midrange is missing (400Hz-1kHz). I cannot recommend them for monitoring live vocal performances or during recording. Compared to my more balanced DT770s, there is a boost in the high bass/low mids and again in the sibilance. Definitely not enough mids for singing. Conclusion: The balance will be good for drummers and bassists. There is a subtle harshness to the overall sound, and the sonic signature isn't the best for a midrange or reference mix. If that's what you need them for, I recommend looking elsewhere.
