Worked on my laptop with a DVD burner and HDTV

I've tried connecting my laptop to a DVD burner and watching what I'm recording on my TV. I seem to have tried 6 different adapters but couldn't get them to work, probably because none of them had wiring instructions. I'm a tech idiot so I really need help. The Belkin adapter came with a quick start guide and diagram. It was enough for me to get the adapter working. Now I can make DVDs from what I watch on my laptop. If anyone wants to know how I wired things up I'll try to explain. 1.: my DVD recorder to my HDTV. HDMI cables from the TV to the DVD recorder and a set of red, blue, green RCA (?) also from my HDTV to my DVD recorder. Another set of red and white wires from the audio component of the HDTV to the audio R/L of the recorder.2. The red, yellow, white RCA cables coming from the recorder were then connected to a VGA.3 adaptor. The VGA was then connected to the Belkin adapter. My VGA has an audio cable and a USB cable. The VGA audio cable plugged into the Belkin audio port and the VGA USB port into my laptop.4. I plugged in the HDMI adapter that came with Belkin and connected it to my laptop. The audio cable that also came with Belkin connected to the audio port on the laptop and the other to the audio port on the back of the TV. Good sound and video. HOORAY! I'm telling you, I hate these technical things.
