I purchased this item to connect a new HP laptop with HDMI output to a video projector with VGA input. When plugged in it worked fine and Windows 10 saw it as an additional issue and chose the correct display settings. It comes with an audio out mini jack which I connected to some external computer speakers and it worked great. Conclusion: works great!

I confess I was skeptical about connecting the adapter to my 20 inch monitor. Mostly about the resolution and how high it will be. I was worried I decided to restart the laptop when it was plugged in and it worked. The resolution of my laptop is quite high, over 1600x900, and the adapter displayed the image clearly.
