Works adequately but most users will need an AC adapter

This is a decent solution to power one of my AppleTVs with a decade old VGA projector that has been collecting dust but comes with a small caveat or two . First, ignore the "*IF* you still don't have a picture" description. [no external force] No, it's not really an 'if'. You *need* an external power supply, and this product doesn't come with one, so just add it to your cart at the same time if you don't already have one. You're looking for a micro USB cable and a power supply with at least 500mA output, which should be pretty cheap. (I just used a 1 amp brick I had lying around.) However: I've tried two different AppleTVs on this unit and one thing I've noticed in particular is that my old projector had some trouble initially syncing with the output has . signal when I turn it on. I suppose I can blame the projector - except that it works fine when I connect it to my Mac Mini via one of Apple's Thunderbolt-to-VGA adapters. Mind you, this isn't exactly a deal breaker; The screen eventually syncs and *usually* detects the signal enough to give me a clearly viewable image. (Part of the screen image is lost from the side from time to time; I'm sure it has something to do with the default black background that comes with the AppleTV Gen2 and Gen3. One possible workaround is to set the AppleTV to set it to enter screensaver mode instead of going to sleep and installing one of the screensavers that uses the entire screen, but I haven't tried that myself.) The image it gives me is always crisp and clear. Pure; there are no problems. So, if you can live with the above limitations, this device may be able to extend the life of an otherwise "old" VGA device that still works great.
