You can only smell an air freshener if you hold it to your face.
I bought these air fresheners to keep in two closets. I placed them next to the door so hopefully as the doors open and close the air pushes and pulls the scent. I also tried gently stirring the canister in hopes of "starting" the air freshener. Nothing helped, you couldn't smell the smell after hours, days or even weeks. Eventually it dried up. save your money
