Having previously got my car phone holder from Instagram I was very skeptical about this charger. However, my skepticism was unfounded; I was pleasantly surprised to receive and test this. This is a quality device. Instructions are printed in English and Chinese. It was a bit difficult to understand what it meant in English, but it was pretty easy to understand. We didn't try to understand Chinese numbers. ;-) I wanted the charger to hold my husband's iPhone XS which is in a thick Otterbox Defender case. We used to have to remove the case so it could hold the phone. This time he was tense but he worked, he held the phone while he was in the fall and he didn't fall! I'm so happy that it's FINALLY shining! I also tested it on my own iPhone XS Max and of course had to remove the case from mine, which is a thick wallet with leather straps. I didn't expect it to work with my thick case. Without a case, it fits perfectly and holds tight. Well, not the most understandable information from the manual, there is a silver "touch button” on the side of the device, and this button is very sensitive. You put your phone in there and touch the silver button and the grips close around the phone and hold it tight. Then touch the silver button again to unlock the phone (make sure the car engine is still running, it must have power, to grab/release that silver touch button). It's beautiful and instinctively very good design. The only thing to note is that it is very sensitive and if you are using the GPS map on your phone and point the phone at you then if you accidentally touch the silver button the phone will be released. Another good point, we took it and tested it on a bumpy country road, over RR tracks and through potholes. iPhone XS in Otterbox case NOT dropped! Success! I was concerned about this as it is a little barely fitting. I wish the phone holder parts were a bit bigger to accommodate the phone in a thick case. However, it didn't fall through a nice bumpy road. (We used to have a holder with rubber bands at the bottom, it fell off and didn't even hold the vent well) - this case is excellent, it exceeded my expectations. Celebration. Obviously well done. and you can be sure that the ventilation handle will not slip off. If you'd rather not use the vent, there's also a 3M sticker to attach the charger to the dash. We didn't test this, we preferred to use a vent as we will be moving it between two cars (until we get a second unit!). Upon unpacking you will find a charging cable which we plugged into the car's USB cigarette lighter port. There are two places to connect the charger, one on the bottom and one on the bottom right. Another good thing is that you know it works, because the charging plate has a red light indicating that it is on and ready to charge. I couldn't see that there was another light / maybe the phone was above it, but it wasn't necessary because I can see the charging icon on my phone. As they say this is a 10w charger. The iPhone XS and XS Max we tested are set by Apple to charge speeds of just up to 7.5. We've seen it charge faster than usual. If your phone is 10W, it will charge up to that amount. All in all, this is a great device and we can recommend it with confidence. If it grabs and holds your case, it can be used with the case.
