Disadvantages: 1). The plexiglass sheet I received actually comes in sizes from 11-7/8" to 11-15/16" as stated by several reviews. It's certainly not a 12-inch square. It didn't make much of a difference for me other than more complex metering calculations for my purposes, but I can see that this may pose a problem for some. Know this before you buy. 2.) The product is delivered separately in a box. Mine did. I didn't purchase any additional items when purchasing, so other items may be combined if more are purchased. 3.) Although this material is not intended for one item only, this material can be quite difficult to cut or drill if the right tools/techniques are used. It's not too hard, but it's tight (if that makes sense). You will need sharp wire cutters and drill bits. Slower speeds will result in spalling and speeds that are too high can result in moderate melting. Finding the right modification tool is very important. Oh, and wear a respirator if you cut or drill it. Grinding this stuff stinks. I don't think the exhaust fumes or sawdust are harmful when sanding, but the smell of the sanding process is worth protecting. Pros: This product is amazing. Too many benefits to list in numbers. Although I haven't measured its thickness with a caliper, 1/2 inch seems right. It is very durable and feels incredibly durable. It comes with a thick paper backing with a sticker/adhesive backing on both sides. This was useful for moderate scratch protection prior to use or application, but I found it most useful for pencil marks, cutouts, drill holes, etc. that can't be done with a pencil on plain plastic when you're actually drawing and scratch or use a marker Sharpie style. The crystal clarity of this material is out of this world. Clearer than ANY real glass I've ever seen. I'm actually so impressed with this product that I'm trying to think of more things to use it for to buy more. I made a router baseplate with mine and this product was a clutch! It was almost the perfect material, size and dimensions for it. I couldn't imagine anything working better.
