I'm a wildlife photographer and used to use an inexpensive $15-$20 Vivitar pan/tilt tripod in case I ruined it and risked going off the beaten path. The ball head is such an upgrade and for the price this little Dolica tripod does everything 10x better than my previous Vivitar! Pros: - Price. At only $20-30 more per unit, I feel comfortable taking this tripod into the wild. I don't have to worry about scratching it, getting it dirty or even losing it. It can be easily swapped out if attacked by animals or something else. The ball head seems to hold heavier gear well. I have a T5i and a 6D camera body and the ball head holds the 6D with the heaviest lens with no problem. You can see small spikes on the underside of the legs. Ideal for improving stability on uneven ground. - Good travel bag - Locking pin on the ball head mount. Even if the camera is not securely attached to the ball head, there is a pin that does not securely attach the camera to the ball head. Don't worry about your camera not syncing with the ball head. Cons: - Heavier gear and a bit longer when folded. Having said that, I have to point out that while it feels a little heavier and longer, it feels extremely sturdy. The liquid level at which the air bubble indicates equilibrium has drained all liquid within the first month. Not sure if I tapped it or was that why I left it in a hot car? Good thing I don't need it for nature photography. Last note. I have a really nice carbon fiber top ball tripod at work (about $400) and I prefer the Dolica for ease of setup. Aubin is too picky and needs too many small adjustments for my liking.
