Review on πŸš— Infinity Automotive PR6510CS Primus Component System by Michael Pickering

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The tweeters are too loud, extra detail is needed to get a smooth sound.

I gave these 3 stars because they were unacceptably harsh at high frequencies, but I've fixed that and they sound great IF you're willing to work a little, see below. The speakers look good and the tweeters look great in my Wrangler JKU pods. Tweeters and speakers are all well adjusted. I didn't use a woofer adapter bracket, I screwed it directly into the plastic. The included brackets are junk and have holes all over them that need to be covered with 1/2 inch caulk at the top and bottom to get a good seal. That's why I simply covered the speaker with a thin sealing foil and attached it directly to the housing. Depending on your car this may not work and you really need to make sure you tape the brackets or just buy another set of brackets when you need them. Sound wise I thought at first they sounded great, a huge improvement over the stock speakers. However, when I listened to the whole song, I realized that the tweeters were SHARPly loud. My pods aim the tweeters straight at your head so they may have been designed for bottom door mounting or locations where the tweeters are not straight and behind plastic/foam. At 5 kHz, the gain from the sweep was about +8 dB. I ended up ordering audio grade resistors from Parts Express and made an L-Pad with -9dB attenuation. The tweeter's impedance has changed from 2.7 to 2.9 ohms, but I don't think that's enough to mess around with the crossover too much. I could have put more resistors in series to get a more accurate L-pad design but to be honest I can say they sound amazing now and the 10w resistors aren't small! I ended up using 3 to get the correct resistor values. Overall, I'm very satisfied, only spending about $12 (only issue is $8 for shipping with express). I run them on a 100w/ch amplifier. There is still a little hiss, but for less than $100 and a little extra work you can't go wrong with this tweeter setup in my opinion. I don't think I can get better sound for less than $250 or so. Also the woofers CAN get a good response, but I sealed plastic cases, reinforced them with acoustic mat and added some polyfill inside.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Hard to say
