A friend gave me an old Pro-96 scanner to program in and I needed to find something to work with. I wanted to look for an old Radio Shack 20-047 cable, similar to what I've used in Radio Shack scanners in the past. Then I read scanner forums and noticed that people are having problems with drivers on Windows 10 lately. I found this cable for about the same price and it works great! No drivers to download, just plug and play. Just make sure you use a stereo to mono adapter to program the Pro-96. UPDATE 1. After reading other reviews of this cable, some have reported that it does not work with Pro-106 and Win500 programs. Well I can confirm that this cable WORKS with both Pro-96 using Win96 and Pro-106 using Win500. After I got the cable and programmed a friend's Pro-96, another friend asked me to update his Pro-106 and Pro-197. I used the same cable and it worked great on my two different computers. UPDATE 2: It's important to note that the Pro-96 requires a stereo to mono adapter while the Pro-106 and Pro-197 only require one cable. connected directly, without an adapter. INSTALLATION NOTE. The very first step is to simply plug in the cable and see if it shows up in Device Manager under Connections. It should show up as "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port". (The port number is in parentheses) Regardless of the port number, use only that port. No need to "try every port". Then make sure the port is selected in Win96, Win500 or whatever program you are using. There's no need to belittle a good cable because you can't set up a communications port. You should get someone with a little more computer knowledge to help you before posting a 1 star review.
