Review on Slotted Concealed Ceiling Covers by David Stewart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well made and beautiful

Well made hatch door with a glossy powder coat finish. I used it to hide some plumbing valves in the ceiling of my basement laundry room. I had a rough hole 16 1/4 x 16 1/4. Most of the other hatches I looked at needed more than this rough opening. This hatch fits perfectly. The white powder coating also looks good. The product was also well packaged. The only thing I have is the location of the horizontal mounting holes. I like installing screws horizontally (in shear) rather than vertically (in tension). The horizontal holes provided are too low and rest against the drywall and not the frame. Also, the ridge on the edge of the frame is close to the hole, causing the screw head to stick out. However, this is not a big problem. The vertical screws have sufficient holding power because the hatch door is light. It's just the engineer in me.

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Some bugs
