I bought this player almost a year ago but only opened it last week. I use a cassette player to listen to books on cassette tapes from the library and my old cassette player was worn out. The very first cassette I put in my new device was damaged. The roller sucked the tape inside the machine and it was impossible to remove it without tearing the tape. I've had a few tangles with other tape recorders, but it used to be easy to gently tug on the tape to get it off the reels. The other players seem to stop when the problem starts, but this one just keeps eating the ribbon, until he can't eat anymore. As a result, the tape gets so stuck and tangled in the player that I can't get it out. Stupidly, I allowed myself to think there might be a problem with the tape, so I tried the first cassette from another audio book. The same thing happened. This time I decided to do whatever necessary to get the cassette out of the player (I couldn't tell the library that I had ruined TWO of their rapidly dwindling inventories of cassette audiobooks). I ended up having to completely disassemble the machine to free the tape - not such a big loss as I will never be able to use this player again. The tape was packed under the keys and the space was filled with many yards of tape. The ribbon was crumpled and tangled so badly that it was impossible remove it without access to either side of the roller. The tension causes the tape to bind and wrap around any available obstacle. You will need access from the back to unravel it. I saved the tape in the end but the player is a bag of screws and plastic parts. I doubt I could put it back together even if I wanted to and I don't want to. I hope to get some satisfaction from AMZ, but that hope is slim. The letterhead is more likely. If you buy this don't use it with a band you care about. but the player is a bag of screws and plastic parts. I doubt I could put it back together even if I wanted to and I don't want to.
