In the beginning the device was great. When I first used it, the oil I applied to the hobs (per manufacturer's instructions) burned the surface and turned the top of the hob brown. I should have guessed it was defective and overheating, but the omelettes came out great so I wasn't worried about that. Worked two weeks. I oiled the surfaces each time according to the instructions. Omelettes cook in 5 minutes, half the time listed in the instructions, but I only use egg whites so I didn't immediately suspect anything. I also noticed that the handle got so hot that I had to use a towel to lift the lid. I just wiped it down with a damp paper towel and then wiped dry. Then the first omelet burned. I used a soft silicone spatula to scrape the omelette. After that, each omelette was burned. I have contacted the manufacturers. They were very helpful and got me to fill out a return form and describe how I used it and send photos. Her next email indirectly called me a liar. They said the brown spots weren't oil (that's right) but scratches I made, obviously from the use of sharp, hard tools at the craftsman's. It doesn't make sense anyway, because why would a scratch on a dark gray non-stick surface form a pattern of dark brown spots and circles? They also said to lubricate the oil every time I use it, which I had already told them. Regardless, they said they would send a replacement anyway and asked if it could be a different color. I replied that it could be a different color to thank them for the replacement and also let them know that I didn't lie about how I took care of the omelette maker and I understand that they did don't want to admit they sold a faulty unit didn't like that I was basically told I was lying. I think because the oil burns on the surface, the omelettes cook in less than half the time, and the fact that I had to use a towel to open the lid, there's a good chance the unit is getting too hot. Then they stopped responding. I have not received any follow up emails and have never received a replacement. Luckily, the device is still in Revain's return window. He'll be on his way tomorrow, and the tablecloth is the tablecloth. Overly cheap products ($19 - pretty cheap for a full fledged omelet maker) like this are great when they work and you never have to mess with the company. However, as I understand it, if something goes wrong, you understand why it's so cheap. Terrible customer service. They don't care if you're happy or not. They sell them by the thousands for $19 and are probably paying a fraction of that amount or less to make them from inferior materials and without QA/QC, causing the heating element in the shaft to get too hot. Update: Holstein saw this. Review and contacted me to propose a replacement and just asked me to fill out the RMA form (again) and the purchase confirmation (again). They didn't admit that I had done all this before and that they were completely confused. I contacted them well before writing this review, complied with all their requests and then waited a while to see if a replacement would arrive. I didn't just decide to write a review and criticize them without giving them a chance first.
