The part itself is a just the right replacement for my Whirlpool Duet Steam. I was able to replace it without removing the dryer drum but it was difficult and time consuming. I have a cot that holds a heating coil. This clamshell has 4 screws holding it together and a sensor and 1 screw thermostat on the top and bottom of the clamshell on one side. I had to remove four screws as well as the bottom screw on the thermostat and sensor. I was then able to open the cot and remove the old block. If it is convenient for you to remove the drum of such a dryer, do it, it will be much easier. If you don't mind, work behind your back with your arm outstretched and a wrench in one hand, and turn each screw a quarter turn. Don't hesitate to take off the drum.
