Review on Varathane 284473 Triple Thick Polyurethane, 32 Fl Oz, Satin by Dan Buycks

Putting it on thick really helped

So, I was very on the fence about this product after reading reviews here and on other sites, but in the end it worked for me, and I'll tell you why. I decorated a painted table with a lot of splatter, which led to a lot of raised bumps that were very easy to see/feel. I needed something thick enough to create a smoother surface over the bumps. This 3X did work for me, mostly because I used a TON of it. I've read that a lot of people see brush strokes after it's dried, and I got around that but putting on so much that it created a really thick (visibly white) layer that took >24 hours to dry. When it's that thick it was easy to brush around, didn't dry too quickly, brought the surface up to the top of the paint bumps, and did self-level really well. I also used a foam brush, and was working on a dark surface so I didn't have to worry about yellowing. For my specific (highly-textured) surface, it did really well.

Pros
  • ‎14.9 ounces
Cons
  • May not dry clear, leaving a yellow tint on surfaces
