This is my first digital camera after using a single lens reflex (film) camera for the past 15 years. I am very happy with the Z710, photo quality, ease of use and range of features. Other reviewers have said it as best I could. I've tried some test photos, zooms, sports, etc. The photos came out sharp and clear even in fast traffic. Another highlight for me was the ability to use batteries, which the Z710 does. Thus, there is no dependency on expensive disposable batteries. I would have preferred a DSLR but I think the Z710 will be fine until that day finally comes. What I miss is the ability to experiment with different filters. And that's the worst thing I can say about the camera. But there are a couple of things I don't like that have nothing to do with the image quality: 1) The included software (once installed) starts at every system start. I'd rather run it myself if I need to, but that option doesn't seem to be available. 2) Movies are recorded in Quicktime (.mov) format. I would have preferred a more accessible format (avi) that I could burn directly to Video CDs. I have yet to test, but the footage doesn't seem to be as smooth as it could be, especially after converting to Avis. I thought it might be a common artifact of videos captured with digital cameras. Overall this is great value for money and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a digital camera.
