I've worn Vibram for a long time (both on the highway and off-road). They fit comfortably out of the box. There wasn't a lot of room in my toes, but once I started walking it all fell into place. I've used them on the road and on the trail. A very comfortable ride and on the trail they offered great cushioning for the occasional toe smack on rocks or roots. So far, so good. The vents in the upper proved incredibly annoying, licking every random sand I ran through (yes, I know, they're technically just road bike boots). Worst of all though is the loop over the heel. As others have pointed out, the awkward placement caused the skin on both ankles to chafe, and not just a little (see photo). Another thing is that the tongue does not sit smoothly like on my other Vibrams (e.g. on the very comfortable and unfortunately discontinued Trek Ascent). As a result, my thighs were quite uncomfortable after a long run. The result is a great start for the redesign, but there's still room for movement.
