Pleasantly Surprised by Engineer

As an engineer, technician and collector of many gear I am pleasantly surprised at how well this system works. My dog Ovi is a hiker and hunter of wild animals. He managed to find every little hole in the fence surrounding my 25 acre property. Luckily he always comes home after his adventures, but I wanted to find him a little earlier than 4:30am when I would be woken up by his barking outside the window, wet and dirty. I didn't want to go the mobile route because of the monthly costs. I figured there must be a direct HF solution, so I stumbled upon the MarcoPolo system and gave it a try. Of course I was skeptical about the range information. That is, walkie-talkies "15 miles" that barely reach a few thousand feet. Hilly terrain and obstacles such as trees and buildings tend to interfere with radio frequencies, particularly in the high-frequency spectrum (MarcoPolo's frequency has not yet been determined). My property has many trees and is quite hilly. I tested first by putting a tracking tag on one end of the property and then went to the other end to see if I could pick it up. No problem. Then last night, while Ovi was staying at a family home about half a mile down the road, I launched the tracker from my bedroom window and was amazed at how quickly I found it! I have yet to see how long the charge will last in the tracking tag and hand block. But based on other reviewers, I expect great battery life. In some other reviews, one or two people have experienced very short battery life. It was obviously a defect but from what I've heard from much higher customer service I don't mind. They will obviously quickly solve any problems that arise. How easy it is to use. very. At least for me who is pretty fast with technical things. Some take a little longer to get used to. I'm actually surprised by the supposed "archaeologists" who couldn't figure it out. It is not that hard. I hope they're not investigating anything important! One benefit of this system that most don't seem to realize is the value in a lengthy search for a missing pet. Last year I spent most of the day searching half the county for a friend's missing dog. We had many people looking for him and luckily he was picked up and taken to the local vet where his chip was scanned and taken home. But I think how much easier it would be to find him if he had a Marco Polo tag. Also, if he quickly moves out of the detection area, this increases the search area per person MUCH more. You don't have to avoid every street in the area. All you have to do is drive around the area as the tracker will pick it up when you are in range. A possible further development of this device could be a receiver that can be attached to the drone (not on the tag itself, but on the other end). The drone could then search from above. Yes, I am an avid drone enthusiast. I'm already thinking about how to bind the handset to the drone so I can look at the screen while flying. But unfortunately. I chat. Either way, it's a BIG machine. I will update this review if I encounter any issues. But so far great. Update 7/10/19: Still 5 stars. Great battery life and found the hiker quickly every time! I would only suggest one small improvement: making the collar holder more durable. It got a little thin. I leave a tag on it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and due to its various activities such as water, rolling, bush diving etc the tag holder is falling apart quicker than I expected. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be made of lightweight material. I'm ordering a spare to keep me going, but I'll see what else I can find or invent that would stop Ovie's adventure a little better. BUT given all the circumstances of this system it doesn't require a star deduction for me.
