As several other reviewers have mentioned, the shroud supplied with this kit is a BRAKE shroud, not a shifter shroud. If you cut it open you can see that it's made of coiled flat metal typical of a brake housing, rather than wire mesh with no derailleur housing compression (google the difference if you don't know what I'm talking about). I thought maybe the other reviewers sent the wrong article, but it's clearly a shift cable with a brake housing. However, I still used it for the road bike and now it works with no problems. For the price I won't complain as it's a good cable that works great. Used it for a double derailleur. It would be less practical to use it as a right shifter housing. Other issues I had were that it didn't come with a wire end cap and the case lugs were already securely attached to both ends of the case so I couldn't pull an end out to finish the case after cutting (although I don't )t I tried very hard, I thought it would knock them out of shape).
