Older than it looks but competent

Since the default year is 2012 and it is now 2014, the gadget is older than it looks. This could explain why some reviewers have noted that the battery drains quickly, despite the battery being protected by a plastic strap, requiring you to remove the battery and strap to activate the pedometer. They suggest using a screwdriver, but I found a utility knife that works fine. I also encountered some confusion when setting the date as it is set in European (day, month, year) format. I've fiddled around a bit and probably didn't quite get my own settings right, but I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to pedometers and the score is good enough for me. Some of the settings confused me, maybe because I'm not an athlete. Why would anyone set 12 hours instead of 24 or vice versa? Am I walking in my sleep? The pedometer opens easily and comes with a quick start guide and a beautifully written and illustrated large chart for setup and use. It has a clip and wrist strap, and even the wrist strap has a miniature clip so you can hang it, clip it, or put it in your pocket. I particularly like the 3-axis technology compared to my previous pedometers, which had to be attached exactly to the hip. I try it by wearing it in different places to see if the results are noticeably different, say if it's in my pocket or on my lapel on my daily walks. This is funny!

Pros
  • Counts up to 1 million steps with onboard memory for 30 days of activity. There's also a clock, calendar and sports timer, as well as auto-sleep technology.
