Review on 💪 High-performance UHF 450MHz-470MHz Land Mobile NMO Antenna - 3dBd Gain by Antonio Gonzalez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Seems to match well with GMRS

Received this antenna and mounted direct to the ground and Nano VNA kit. It was found to be well tuned for 440/450MHz. I shortened it a bit and configured it to use GMRS. I divided the difference between the input and output frequency of the repeater into 467 and 462 MHz. It covered the entire spectrum with no problems. You can see the Nano VNA shows an SWR of 1.03 at 467.600MHz. I worked on a cut out for the size of the antenna but it came out almost exactly as stated on the supplied cutting guide. If you don't have an SWR meter, just cut it to the recommended size and it will turn out to be very, very close. I did a quick test with a 1W Vertex VX231 UHF radio. I used a TRAM Mag Mount which was about 16ft RG58 from the VX231. I switched between this antenna and the TRAM 1126 which also has very low SWR on GMRS frequencies. I drove into an area where the repeater was only a few miles away but was severely impeded by the ridge line. The repeater was at an altitude of about 1500 feet. The Browning BR176 antenna improved the signal slightly compared to the Tram 1126 1/4 wave. Browning's BR176 antenna seems to improve your hearing when you're within range of the fridge. If I get a chance I'll walk a much greater distance from the repeater but with fewer obstacles and see how it works. I assume it will be similar to my results above.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • ---
