Ever since I was a kid and was told to "go water in the back yard", I've had kind of an adversarial relationship with the Garden Hose Nozzle. The trigger won't work right, it won't stay in place, it leaks, it sprays off in all directions, it leaks. I inherited a hose and nozzle recently and this nozzle is all of those things. Annoying! So, I was happy to replace it with this thumb-control nozzle from Fanhao. It arrived well-packaged, and includes rudimentary instructions and a couple of extra hard rubber (plastic?) gaskets. Looking up inside the base of the nozzle you see one of those gaskets lodged up in it an inch or so, holding a small concave mesh screen. I compared this to the old nozzle, which doesn't have that. I imagine this will keep mineral deposits from jamming up in the body of the nozzle over time, and will probably need to be checked/emptied periodically. Probably only once a season I'm guessing. When I screwed the nozzle onto the hose and turned the water on, it LEAKED, AND LEAKED. Before I got too depressed, I decided to try inserting one of those gasket up into the base of the nozzle, and then re-attaching. This left some exposed threads on the hose and made it look like it wasn't quite screwed on all the way, but guess what? It worked perfectly with no leaks. Odd.The rotating ring that selects different spray patterns works great, as expected, with no water streams shooting off in the wrong direction. The on-off mechanism here is totally different than all other nozzles I've used, which all have been some variety of a squeeze trigger. and tend to have some kind of a nut that you can screw down to lock the trigger to the 'on' position so you don't have to squeeze it constantly. Here, there's no trigger-squeezing at all. instead there is a thick plastic clip above your hand that your thumb can reach and push away for on and pull back for off. and in-between as well for less stream. The only draw back to this is you can't easily do short bursts of water. which, when I think about it, I probably only used when there was a kid around who wanted to be squirted while we washed the car in the summer. :)Any contraption that you push water through is going to be affected by weather and by mineral deposits. I don't live somewhere where it gets below freezing in the winter, so I have a little less to worry about in this regard. I can at least offer this: at the $24 price point this nozzle is currently selling for, it's not going to last forever, but I hope that it is durable enough to last, and function properly (no leaking on my shoes!), at least a few years. Like other Vine voices, I expect to report back here and update the review if there are any near-term issues. 4.5 stars.
