Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Yusud Fire Jet Torch Cigar Lighter Insert: Dual Flame Switchable Butane Refillable Lighter (No Fuel Included) by Christine Bergseth

Practical double flame insert

I bought this insert for my Zippo bag because I thought the combination of soft flame and jet flame could be conveniently combined in one lighter. I'm happy to report that the liner fits a modern Zippo case (made about 10 years ago) with no problems opening or closing. It still retains the iconic clicking sound as the case opens and closes with a click. I've used the lighter dozens of times since I got it, not that I've used that much for one, but more than I wanted to test. The flame toggle button works as it should, switching between soft flame and torch without hesitation. The butane valve opens when the cap is opened and the gas escapes, ready to be ignited by the flint. So I like the lighter as it feels more like a Zippo lighter than the piezo igniter button commonly found on most lighters. Where I knock off the star is on the flame height adjustment screw. In my unit, soft flame heights varied widely depending on use, from a short 0.5 inch flame to a tall 3 inch flame. I was wondering if it was related to gas pressure and level, so I've experimented dumping and refilling some gas with similar results. With a little fiddling with the adjustment screw, I added some silicone grease to the threads and was able to get the insert to fire a moderately soft 1" tall flame. I would add that despite the variable height of the soft flame, the torch's flame remained independent of the Flame height remained constant and reliably ignited. It seems that as long as there is a soft flame, the torch reliably ignites and burns until the button is released. Using a lighter outdoors depends on the wind. This lighter is not windproof at all and the slightest breeze will blow it away.Without a gentle flame to ignite, the torch function on arrival won't work either.I tried rolling my thumb off the wheel right onto the torch button to see if I could jump straight into that flame , but the burner of the torch seems to rely solely on soft flames to ignite, and sparks from fiery flames in are insufficient. . I wouldn't rate this lighter as suitable for outdoor/survival use as it is very picky about everything but wind conditions. In general, this insert is a good replacement for the traditional oil insert. Being butane, it is not subject to fuel vaporization at the same rate as oil-based inserts and offers two types of flames in one unit. In most cases, with the possible exception of lighting candles, cigarettes, and pipes, a torch's flame is probably more useful, and if I wasn't such a fan of Zippo, with their traditional flint wheel and smooth flame, I'd just go for one Zippo torch paste and called it done. What it lacks in practicality of use it makes up for in novelty. I'll keep it in one of my favorite Zippo cases and take a flashlight-like insert with me when I go camping.

Pros
  • โœ”Adjustable flame and refillable with butane: The flame size can be easily adjusted with the dial at the bottom. The universal filling valve is designed for easy filling with butane. You can unscrew the screw from below instead of the flint. Butane is NOT included due to airmail regulations.
Cons
  • Damaged
