Review on BOOX Note Air 2 Plus 10.3: Magnetic ePaper E Ink Tablet for Enhanced Productivity by Adam Nowak ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The product is the most common, it could be worse.

Well . I'll try to give the most objective report on the use of this device. I will immediately warn you that I am a user of e-books from both PocketBook and OnyxBoox. I also own iOS and Android tablets. So the whole comparison took place in the context of using other devices. The manufacturer has a lot to look forward to. And most importantly, a huge wish for him - listen to your user. You have a wonderful product but it needs to be completed to make it even better.

Pros
  • The very idea of such a device is perhaps the main advantage of the result of the engineering thought of OnyxBoox employees. An e-book of almost A4 format for a similar price in the current conditions is quite a sane purchase. Working with PDF, DjVu has become several times more convenient.
Cons
  • In order about all the negative factors: General ergonomics: 1. The pen has only two magnetization points to the body of the e-book (photo #1). For reliable fastening, it is necessary to combine the magnetization points on the body of the e-book and the pen. In other cases, simply placing the pen on the side of the e-book, you risk losing it. 2. Branded case - one would like to say "well, if you copy the concept of the famous iPad case, then do it to the end" (photo No. 2) - there are no magnets in the sections of the case. Because of what, an attempt to make a stand out of it fails miserably. Putting an e-book on a flat surface by configuring a stand from a cover is on the verge of the impossible - the design simply moves apart. 3. Dimensions - well, at least one and a half centimeters narrower. Because of this centimeter, the book does not fit into various work pouches. Software: 1. Dear manufacturer, so that you know - in addition to Windows, there are many more operating systems that buyers of your books use. And given the extremely slow MTP exchange protocol with an e-book via cable, as well as its extremely crooked implementation on other operating systems (such as Linux, MacOS), the process of transferring books from a computer to a device becomes extremely painful. 2. Moreover, the transfer of the library becomes almost impossible if there are a huge number of books and they are already cataloged on the file system (and you need to transfer 1 to 1). Devices of this class are not bought for reading Dontsova's bestsellers. For example, the volume of my library is about 10 thousand books in PDF, DjVu, FB2 formats. And fiction there is at most a quarter of the total. Everything else is specific reference books that I use at work. 3. NeoReader - there is still no "Day / Night" mode. I think this is disrespectful to my customer. 4. Of course, the pen will only work in proprietary NeoReader software. In other programs, the pen does not function.
