This was a replacement for an existing pet door for my 80 lb 27 inch Irish Setter "pup". This door did not close in windy weather. LOTS of wind! Based on my experience with the size of the original dog door, I decided to order a larger door as it was the same size as the installed door. I have a 9 inch step and it comes and goes with no problem. The door closes very well EXCEPT when he sticks his nose out to sniff the wind and then retracts. There is not enough momentum for the door to return to the closed position and for the magnets to engage. I have to go to the door and manually reposition it for the magnets to work. When it bombs like it normally does, it seals perfectly. And once sealed, it can withstand wind speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. In general very satisfied. Now for the bad. When you install the machine screws and try to hold the two frame pieces together, it's almost impossible to control the screw with a Phillips head screwdriver, align it with the outside of the frame, and then force it to start threading. I even used wire through 3 holes and still had trouble getting the thread into the 4th hole. Eventually I went to my set of drills, got a magnetic Phillips bit with a socket on it, and was finally able to direct the screw with the socket where it needed to be. I highly recommend changing the design to use a hex bolt, which provides a strong hex key connection and easy re-orientation of the bolt when trying to screw it on. And supply an Allen key with a kit to make the process easier. Due to installation issues I would give 4.5 stars if I could. But overall I'm very happy with the design, materials, construction and features.
