What I like about the Optishot is that it's a lot cheaper than most machines, I can use it indoors with foam balls, it doesn't take up much space and t requires one subscription fee. Hitting real balls indoors just isn't an option for me. The downside is that it doesn't actually measure the flight of the ball, but only estimates it based on the racquet used, the trajectory of the swing and the speed of the racquet head, which is measured by rows of sensors several inches apart. behind and in front of the ball. Because of this, it doesn't show slices or errors. The block is also very stiff so you can't swing to negotiate bumps. Aside from not imagining real hits while playing, I'm concerned that this might mean shooting bad mechanics over and over again without realizing it. For example, disks that I know shear to the right appear to be shifted to the left. I find the unit to be a lot smaller than my iron shots, but a lot bigger than my rider and woods estimates for some reason. However, Optishot offers some handy ways to adjust your estimated turn rate or distance to compensate. The big problem I had was that when I judged the accuracy of my wedge and then used it to chop, it was again very inaccurate. The drawing, of course, is not very accurate. Another issue is that the sensor is about two inches thick. So if you want to get to the level, you really need a two-inch recess mat. Note that many of the optishot cutting mats are NOT thick enough to provide a flat surface. I made it myself by gluing several layers of foam mat and some floor carpet on top. Since I use styrofoam balls I just hit the tarp without the golf ball net and just use my TV for the picture so a very affordable system. (I saw a video on YouTube of a user who bought a sheet of insulation, cut it and glued an artificial turf on top for a cheap option. Optishot offers a nice gel coated foam pad with cut outs for the Optishot, but it costs almost twice as much as much as the Optishot itself. ) I give Optishot credit for offering an inexpensive simulator for people to play with, but in my opinion it has some notable flaws in terms of accuracy. I couldn't download their current Mac software, nor could I get their recommended solution to work, but in the end the old version of the software installed and worked.
