Review on Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical Macro Zoom Lens for Nikon DSLR - Built-in Motor Included by Brian Potter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks good, the price is reasonable, but a pity. SO.

I bought this lens for two reasons: 1) to have a multi-purpose lens while on vacation and 2) an extra focal length of up to 250mm (Nikon equivalent stops at 200mm). Fortunately, during my trip to Indonesia, the lens worked more or less normally. I only had to unscrew/twist the lens from time to time because the camera (Nikon D90) didn't recognize the lens. But lately the lens' autofocus feature has died for me and hasn't come back. Apparently this happened AFTER the warranty expired. My advice is to read the other one star reviews on this lens and buy another lens. I haven't tried the alternative yet, but I definitely will. I have to update this review as the one star I gave it seems wrong at first. After sending my D90 to Nikon for repair, I saw that they also updated the camera's firmware (although I couldn't find a firmware update on their website). Anyway, I thought to give the lens a second chance. So far, the above issues don't seem to be relevant here anymore. The lens focuses precisely automatically and is recognized stably. The only minor issue is lens sag, but that's easily circumvented by the rubber strap.

The Auto Focus doesn’t work. Otherwise it takes clear pictures.
