Excellent Microphone - Exceeded Expectations

I bought a Canon VIXIA HF11 High Definition (HD) camcorder to spend an unforgettable 15 day family vacation in Hawaii. I needed to minimize the risk of bad video/audio recording as I could probably never afford to vacation in Hawaii again. This camcorder picked up a lot of wind noise when tested on a windy day. Wind noise can be very distracting for viewers, so I wanted to minimize this issue as much as possible. The Canon DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone got mixed reviews, but I thought it was worth the $150 gamble to significantly improve the quality of the audio captured during my family's vacation in Hawaii. I received the microphone in just a few days. The microphone looks huge when mounted on a camcorder. However, both the microphone and its windsock are made of high-quality materials. We spent 15 days on Oahu, visiting all the major tourist attractions (like Pearl Harbor, Kualoa Ranch, etc.), Waikiki Beach, and Turtle Bay. on the north shore. I used the Canon DM-100 for at least half of the scenes I shot and forgot to use it for a few other scenes. Three days after returning from Hawaii, I took my DM-100 camcorder and microphone on a trip to northern Minnesota and captured some scenes of my father fishing for bass. After I returned home from Minnesota, I transferred all the captured videos to my computer for video editing. In summary, it was absolutely amazing to hear how effective the DM-100 mic was. Several scenes shot without it contained a lot of wind noise, while scenes shot with a microphone contained little to no noise. For example, I could clearly hear the sound of the waves as I watched the beach scenes and the sound of the waves my dad's fast fishing boat made (as it crossed the lake) - with little to no wind noise. The Canon DM-100 microphone cost Revain $150 and I would highly recommend it to anyone who will be using their Canon HF/HG series camcorders outdoors extensively.
