The fact is that this microphone has a retractable troika.

The fact that this mic has a 3-way slide switch to select mono or stereo is what prompted me to sell this mic. A front-facing mono mic pickup for vlogging and interviews, a 90° stereo mic pickup, and a 120° stereo mic pickup for everything else. This microphone is only compatible with Canon camcorders equipped with an "S" hot shoe. I bought this microphone for my Vixia HF S series camcorders (S100😍, S200😁 and my favorite S21✌😎✌).

  • Easy Installation

Ideal for recording live music.

I installed this on my Canon Vixia HF-G20 and spent several hours filming rock bands playing at full or at least loud volume. I'm impressed by what a good job he's doing. highs and mids sound great; Low frequencies are not remarkable, but better than the built-in microphone. I usually record separately with the Zoom H4N which picks up the lows better but doesn't capture the highs as well so I mix them in and the bands are pretty happy with the results. I have to admit that I have no experience…

Does what it's supposed to, but maybe not very durable.

This is a first reaction, very little used so far. I'll try to update later after using it a little more. My testing shows it works as advertised, more or less as other reviews say. I also agree that the flex mount could very well be their Achilles heel. it looks fragile, like it could easily break. So I hope to be careful with it and try not to put too much effort into it. It's definitely a huge advantage to have a device that plugs in through the camera's shoe, doesn't need its own batteries,

Great stereo microphone!

I bought this mic for my Canon Vixia HF-S200 HD camcorder and it works great. When I install it, a small icon appears on the camcorder to indicate it's installed. Stereo sound is excellent. When I listen to my recording with headphones, I hear everything as if it were live. Background noise sounds like it's behind you, and objects moving left-to-right or right-to-left sound like they're live. The windshield is a real talking point. Everyone wants to know what I have installed on my camcorder…

Worth the money for the performance and sound quality

I bought this mic to replace the exact same mic I bought 10 years ago but lost. 90% of my videos are musical performances and concerts. To get a decent angle you need some distance from the scene. The last thing you want is the camcorder's built-in microphones picking up dinner conversations in close proximity to the camcorder. In very noisy places, a shotgun mount picks up the audio with a narrow beam (like those used to record end zone conversations at soccer games). In quieter rooms, 90- or…

A must have if you shoot outdoors

The Canon DM-100 is a great accessory, I use this mic with my Canon VIXIA HF200. I had a horrible experience recording an outdoor wedding where a slight breeze made the audio almost unusable. With this microphone and windscreen, wind noise is SIGNIFICANTLY reduced and voices sound much clearer. One thing to note is that the microphone doesn't completely eliminate all wind noise, especially when the wind is blowing fast. This mic is very sensitive and can pick up conversations from 15-20 feet…

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Outdoor

Bought for my Canon Vixia HF M50 - PERFECT!

It didn't take long to find out that this was the mic I was looking for. Every time I searched "external microphones," the DM-100 landed at the top of both the "Best Seller" and "Top Rated" lists. Now that I have it in my hands I understand why. If you have a DM-100 compatible Canon camcorder, there's no need to look any further. Design: 5/5 As soon as you pick up this microphone, you will feel that it is of high quality. I bought another gun mic before this one and it seemed flimsy and fragile

Excellent Microphone - Exceeded Expectations

I bought a Canon VIXIA HF11 High Definition (HD) camcorder to spend an unforgettable 15 day family vacation in Hawaii. I needed to minimize the risk of bad video/audio recording as I could probably never afford to vacation in Hawaii again. This camcorder picked up a lot of wind noise when tested on a windy day. Wind noise can be very distracting for viewers, so I wanted to minimize this issue as much as possible. The Canon DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone got mixed reviews, but I thought it

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance

A must-have accessory for Canon Vixia camcorders

So you bought a Canon Vixia camcorder? The picture is fantastic - it's hard to believe such beautiful images can be captured from such a compact camcorder. Unfortunately, you can't get top-notch sound from a compact camcorder, no matter how much you pay for it. This is not a design flaw issue; this is due to the physics of sound: a directional microphone has to be long; for the best audio, the microphone must be physically separated from the camera body; after all, a kind of muffle is needed so
