Put a thick towel underneath!
I like it a lot because it's the same size as the portable I use for ironing in quilt groups and retreats. However, when steamed, it leaves the table damp. I solved this problem by folding a thick towel and placing it under a wool rug. No moisture on the table and I think it's better if the mat gets air from underneath.
