I purchased this mount to replace a previous GPS mount of a similar design which attached directly to the windscreen with a short rigid extension. This version replaces the rigid extension with a much longer gooseneck and a much improved suction cup that grips like a vise. Time will tell if it can withstand the constant vibrations and sunlight that seem to wear off over time, but my first impressions are favourable. install on your windshield, if you don't need that range, the previous version might be a better choice. After first use, I quickly realized that setting my GPS for a fully extended gooseneck without the "stabilizer" turned on was unfortunate. At the end of the unsupported stem, my GPS would shake and wobble over every bump in the road. I didn't think there was a risk of it falling out, but the constant bouncing was very annoying. Unfortunately, my preferred mounting location doesn't have a good spot to add a stabilizer, so I looked for another spot to attach the gooseneck or the GPS itself to something solid. I ended up installing it on the windshield right in front of my driver's position and putting the GPS on the dashboard myself. This provided two points of stability that solved the impact issue, but this may not be the best solution for safety reasons. Having a GPS this close is helpful for accessing the controls. But the constantly moving display right in my field of vision is very distracting. I can get used to it over time, but after further thought and experience, I find that the previous version suited my needs better. It was enough to keep the GPS within reach but out of the way where it didn't catch my attention. I may keep playing with this mount to see if I can find a way to get it back out of the way with the required spacer.
