A set of three bricks does the job perfectly - Boron Carbide Brick - Star of the Group

UPDATE 2: (2/12/20) As far as I know, this is the only vendor currently selling Boron Carbide brick on Revein. This little gem is highly sought after as my experience with boron carbide is unique among whetstones. It is exceptionally hard, but not so hard that it cannot be used to simply sharpen a blade, regardless of the hardness of the steel. You can use it without water or oil, just wipe it with a sponge after use to remove the accumulation of metal shavings. Compared to my Arkansas surgical stone, the Arkansas stone fills up with sawdust rather quickly and loses the ability to further sharpen the blade. I have the same problem with the ceramic sharpener. I have two boron carbide stones and both are exceptional. None of them show any signs of wear. I suspect I'll wear out my knives before wearing out these stones. Boron Carbide is without a doubt my favorite of the many types of sharpeners I have purchased over the years and as a perfectionist I own many. A NOTICE. A longer 1" x 6" boron carbide stone would be a real winner if available from Revain. Until then, sticking that little boron carbide brick onto a shortened paint mixing stick or something is probably a clever way to roll up to protect your fingers. In truth, this stone alone is capable of producing a razor-sharp edge. 8000/10000 agate stones are slightly better at polishing blades, but more difficult to use. When you first use these stones, the blade only seems to slide across smooth glass surfaces, but if you use a little force, the blade will start to bite into the material. INITIAL REVIEW I bought a set of three stones. The boron carbide sharpener does an excellent job of sharpening the edge of the blade. It's cheaper and more durable than Arkansas stone. I recommend selling boron carbide as a 6 x 2 x 0.5 inch sharpener for large knives. As with other stones, low grit stone is soft and aggressive. Can work well for garden tools but not for a good knife. A combination of agate and emerald completes the blade. The emerald is a bit soft and reminds me of a soapstone. The agate finer makes the blade exceptionally sharp and you can see the material being removed on the surface of the white stone during sharpening. So yes, this combo set will give you a super sharp edge. If they sell a larger version I will definitely buy it.
