Review on DeLonghi EC155M Espresso Machine Cappuccino by Larry Gaines

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Always a good espresso

--I have posted a video if you want to see the machine in action --This espresso machine is equipped with a stainless steel boiler and a professional 15 bar pressure pump. While it has some flaws, it consistently makes good espresso and that's the most important thing (for me). Be sure to use a reasonably fine grind and pound as evenly as possible. I can't get a smooth, fine grind with my basic blade grinder and I dislike using a burr grinder as it's very difficult to clean, so on a whim I tried grinding in my Nutribullet with a grain/seed grinder blade . and it gave the perfect fine, even grind, so I'll be using it on this machine from now on. The steam/foam wand is the best I've ever used; You put it in a good position and it foams/evaporates very quickly. They provided a solid plastic tamper that was also well placed, to the right and out of the way. The machine heats up quickly, however there is a slight delay between shots and steam/foam (ready light). This machine also accepts standard ESE containers, making cleaning a lot easier. The filter holder handle needs to be pulled forward for proper positioning and is very stiff and difficult to move. Because the machine is fairly light, you'll need to hold onto it while spinning. Hopefully it will go away with time because it hurts. Also, the machine vibrates quite a lot, which causes enough movement when using glasses that you have to keep putting them on. There is no automatic timing for shot, double shot, etc. so you have to be careful. You can only use very small cups; They had to redesign the cup tray so you can pull it out all the way to accommodate larger cups. I like to make a regular cup of coffee with frothed milk, so I make a quarter shot in my 4 ounce cappuccino mug, froth some milk/half and half in another cup, then pour in the espresso. It turns out to be better than the pourover I usually drink in the morning.
