If like me you have old, worn out kitchen knives that you don't want to throw away, then this is for you. This grinder will breathe new life into your old and damaged blades. The attached picture clearly shows the cutting edge of this knife. Too bad I didn't take a series of before and after photos so you can see that the "point" of this knife was completely square before I worked on it with this sharpener. I accidentally broke the tip many years ago and have continued to use the knife because it holds the blade fairly well. I've recently started dabbling in blade sharpeners and I just couldn't justify paying for something that was only useful for sharpening blade edges. Well, Vine came along and showed me what to use for blades and wood. While my idiot dog gnaws the house, this sharpener has a ton of work to do, both repairing the damaged wood around the house and fixing my old knives. I'm sure it will work well for sharpening a dull sword as well. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to. Now what makes this grinder particularly useful for use with blades is that it comes with two clips that allow you to convert your grinder into a bench grinder that stays in place when you move around. knife against belt. It really was the perfect find for my needs. Another reviewer has now complained about the background noise. And yes, I can attest that this grinder is insanely loud. Luckily I have hearing protection, so the noise doesn't bother me at all when I put it on. If you are in a common room where loud noises could disturb others, consider this factor. If you are not bothered by noise, you will not have any problems. Overall I like this grinder. It's perfect for what I need, comes with a range of different straps in varying degrees of roughness, is versatile and easy to use. I can't recommend it highly enough. I was able to request and receive this grinder from Revain Vine for free and would have no problem spending my own money on it if I needed to get another one. I highly recommend.
