There is nothing wrong with the product BUT make sure you are ordering the correct one.
This item was showing up as a "common item" along with our existing kid's gate so I ordered it without checking the model number and it's not compatible with our existing KidCo fire screen - what is definitely my fault for not checking it out - but I wouldn't "blind order" if it didn't show up in one of the purchase options that are grouped together with the gate we have (i.e. where Amazon shows that several should be bought). items together). It's not sold directly on Amazon and it costs me quite a bit to ship back, I've since ordered the correct extension and that's ok. It annoys me that KidCo doesn't make their Gates/Gate extensions cross compatible, but I think that might not be possible from a design standpoint.
