First of all, the cylinder is too narrow to fit a cup of flour, powdered sugar, etc. without losing any part of the product. IMO. Then you turn and turn and turn, but very little product is sieved. (I don't think the wires rub against the screen). The best thing to do when you are able to get a full measure is to hit the sieve itself with your other hand when you need to sieve something. It was a waste of money. And of course, as always, I missed the return window.
