It's all about "Place, Place, Place!" More than 90 percent of performance or sound quality problems and dissatisfaction stem from improper speaker placement. Once you have a decent set of speakers like these, take some time to figure out how to position them for your environment and experiment with placement. You will find pleasant moments and be rewarded with sound. These are beautiful speakers with a fairly even (read flat) response. Great projection and an immersive soundstage for such a small area. 10-20 years ago you had to buy something in the pro category to get the *quality* room-filling sound they offer. The speakers appear solid and heavy. To my ears, they're lacking a touch of upper midrange, but nothing particularly noticeable, and that's to be expected. In general I am very happy with them. I hooked them up to a vintage Pioneer shelf component system and they get louder than I'd like (and I like them loud), just past the 1/4 mark on the volume knob. I almost bought a pair of similarly sized Klipsch bookshelf speakers but I'm glad I chose them. Music that is expected but still sounds good. They are excellent for classic rock, alternative rock, jazz, symphony and ambient.
