Review on Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G - Ultra-Compact Full-Frame G Lens by Adam Whittaker

As sharp as my 55mm 1.8

the pictures included were only around my house or in the shop lot (so not great photos). Just wanted to give you an idea of how spicy it is though. It is as sharp as the 55mm 1.8 used at the time. In fact, I like this lens more, even if it's slower. It has additional on-lens controls for a variety of uses. I like how it focuses better, it's smaller and newer. It can still take good f/2.5 portraits, but I also have 85mm, 1.8 and 135mm lenses for that. But if the 50mm is going to be your only lens for portraits, you might want to look elsewhere. Despite the small size, you can tell that the quality is very high. I think the price would be better than $400-$450 but for me it's still worth the current price. I rented this lens about a month ago and then I tested it and I really liked it so I finally pulled the trigger. I didn't get a 24mm or 40mm lens because I already had 20mm and 35mm lenses from other manufacturers. So that gives me a 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lens setup. I'm more of a simple guy. I have a zoom lens but I just like Primes better but everyone is different and their gear is used in different ways. I'm not a wedding photographer, but I've done several weddings as a hobby and also held several events. For weddings I usually take 20mm, 35mm, 85mm and 135mm. 50mm would be my travel lens.

Pros
  • I'm looking forward to
Cons
  • Infinitely Sluggish
