Review on ๐Ÿ“ธ Sigma 30mm F1.4 Contemporary DC DN Lens for Micro 4/3: Top-notch Performance and Versatility by Ryan Limkk แ Œ

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A great option for this money, I definitely recommend it!

Meets expectations by 100%, no less, but no more. Therefore, the rating is five, simply and without fanaticism. All the advantages and disadvantages were known even before the purchase, I just confirm the facts on my own tests. Everything is compensated by the quality of the picture and the price tag. The problems described regarding autofocus are actually quite rare, and for particularly critical cases, no one has canceled the manual mode, even if it requires some getting used to. The lens was purchased as a kit for the OM-D E-M10 of the first reincarnation, the main purpose is household photography of children in close and medium shots indoors. Until now, for 3 years, the native blinosum and helios 44-2 have been in use for the carcass. The zoom is universal, but in half of the cases it frankly lacks aperture, and the flash kills the "mood of the frame", and the detail and sharpness are far from ideal. Helios is not very bad, but starting from aperture 4.0, it is extremely narrow, which greatly limits its use in a small room, and it is very difficult to catch a child with manual focus at a long distance without lubrication with any stabilizer in the carcass. After acquiring the "review hero", all the listed inconveniences fell off as expected, now I'm shooting everything with a new lens. Before buying, there were some concerns regarding the acceptability of using a fully open aperture, many reviews and reviews mentioned a noticeably weak sharpness and detail in this mode. My fears were not justified, I shoot all the close-ups at a fully open one, at least it doesnโ€™t lose in detail to pancake zoom in the most optimal for it in terms of picture quality (in my opinion) range of focal lengths (22-28mm) and apertures (4.5-5.6 ). Well, itโ€™s really impressive how the sensitivity drops to 200-400 units when fully open with ordinary household lighting and a shutter speed limit of 1/60, shooting at a nightlight or TV light without a flash at ISO up to 2022 is now a common thing. Conclusion: highly recommended

Pros
  • Aperture! and once again luminosity. Sharpness and detail at the widest aperture. The price against the background of the cost of direct and even less aperture competitors.
Cons
  • Size, especially with a lens hood, lack of an aperture ring, relatively slow autofocus (compared to a "native" lens for a carcass), besides, it is not always accurate at the widest aperture, rather unpredictable when shooting video.

In general, in its class and focal length, this is the best glass for micros.
