Review on Enhance Your Audio Experience with the ASUS Strix SOAR Sound Card by Chad Delgado

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A big improvement over onboard audio to say the least

I wanted to upgrade my onboard audio with a better sound card specifically for Sennheiser headphones. I toyed with the idea of learning to play the guitar and after buying a Rocksmith and a matching electric guitar I was ready to go. This card is very light, with a decorative plate on top of the electronics and an orange LED that doesn't match my blue and black color scheme and seems impossible to turn off. The card requires a 6-pin PCI Express power supply, which is not listed on the product page or this product page. Important for "cable management" types. The card requires a 6-pin connector and will not work without it. In terms of performance, this is a pleasant experience to say the least. The PC output is upscaled to 100%, crystal clear and distortion-free for every sound profile in Strix Sonic Studio software. No problem with music or movies, and with open-loop headphones, it's a wonderful experience. It's been at least ten years since I've used a discrete sound card versus onboard audio, so I can't really compare the Strix Soar to other discrete sound cards from other manufacturers. Overall I'm very impressed with this sound card and wonder why I've been using headphones without a headphone amp for years.

Pros
  • Great choice
Cons
