Review on Enhance Your Photography with Olympus WCON-P01 Wide Angle Converter for Olympus 14-42mm MFT Lens by Rico Dantzler

Excellent wide angle lens for 14-42mm II and IIR lenses

This is a high quality wide angle lens for Olympus M43 14-42mm II and IIR lenses only. It does not fit the earlier 14-42mm lens. It mounts on the outside of the lens barrel with a bayonet mount rather than a 37mm thread for a 14-42mm lens filter. This offers a slightly wider field of view (approx. 26%) with little degradation in image quality. I tested a very large number of other 37mm wide-angle attachment lenses on the 14-42mm II lens. None of them were visually as good as this one. They mostly had two problems: blurring at the edges and moderate to severe vignetting. This lens is specially designed for the 14-42mm II lens, which matches its quality very well. It's sharp around the edges, with minimal barrel distortion or color fringing, and no vignetting at all. Incidentally, I also tried it with the newer Olympus 14-42mm II R lens with identical results. I didn't like the bayonet mount at first because it limits the lenses it can be mounted on, but after using it I found it very convenient and reliable. I also have an Olympus FCON fisheye lens and like it even better because it offers a much wider field of view, but if I want to maintain image quality I prefer this WCON lens. So I have to say that this is a very high number. Quality and well thought out product. It's expensive compared to many 37mm wide-angle lenses, but performs much better, so I highly recommend it.
