I have had a Kreg pocket hole set for a number of years. Pocket hole design is a quick and easy way to create frames, cabinets, and other objects that require wood joinery. While the kit itself includes everything you need for blind hole carpentry, the Kreg square clamp is a handy accessory. It's like a third hand. The clamp is solidly made, all metal except for the soft plastic pads on the handles. A jaw is a rounded protrusion that fits into a pocket opening. The second jaw has a flat plate that allows for forced clamping of the opposite surface. When tightening, the jaws hold the parts to be joined while tightening the screw in the adjacent blind hole. (The pocket hole gauge creates two holes in close proximity.) Some reviewers have mentioned that on some projects a second clamp would make it easier to clamp the material securely when screwing parts together, but a clamp will do the job if you look at the Takes time Align the parts properly and clamp them in place. Of course, as another reviewer pointed out, if you're also using glue to hold the pieces together, the joint surfaces will be slippery, but proper clamping and a little caution usually solves the problem. Otherwise, as other reviewers have suggested, using a simple stop or corner fastener to adjust the joint can keep the attached piece from slipping. But if someone insists two clamps are needed, consider buying a second one. It will most likely be a lifetime investment for most people. That makes the price reasonable. Two caveats: first, excessive force with the clamp can cause the edges of the blind hole to splinter, and second, it's recommended to cover the flat plate of the clamp (with tape?) to avoid damaging the wood by pressing too hard. All in all, I recommend this tool as a handy addition to my workshop.
