Review on Aitoh Origami Marbling Kit - Create Stunning Designs with 12 ml (Pack of 6) by Sasha Hsiao

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well but very thin

This is a very basic marbling kit - the paints are in liquid form, in dropper bottles and you just drip different colors onto the surface of a pot of water, dip the paper, and that was it! As other reviewers have pointed out, the colors are NOT particularly vibrant. But after playing around with the set for a while, we realized it was all about the paper used. The best paper we found was Target marker paper (yes, store bought) - VERY cheap paper that we got in a notebook and for some reason produced amazingly vibrant colors. Gypsum coated paper did NOT work well. I had a few handy from a mixed media project I was working on and the colors were very faded. We've also found that using the smallest water bowl possible and filling it with as little water as possible so you can still submerge the paper works well. Because colors migrate easily, the less water they can migrate, the brighter the design and color saturation will be. packaging, so keep an eye on them when unpacking), but we've had just as much success dipping the tips of the brushes into each color and then tapping the surface of the water lightly. This made the design more complex. It was a very fun project - my 8 year old daughter made amazing prints in just minutes and she was mesmerized. I also. This is definitely going to be a regular creative project here. I only wish there were more colors but when you mix and match the ones that come with the kit the possibilities are endless. Highly recommended.
