I wanted them for a large bay window to add atmosphere to my formal living room all year round. I like the way they were packaged. This made it very easy to stretch them through a window and hang them, then unwind and drop each long strand or curtain-like strand so they don't get tangled when hanging. Of course there are many lights; You can just lower the curtain rod to the floor if you want that too. Mine are just piled up neatly on the windowsill, and for Christmas, since I've created a small quaint garden there, I braided them around the "village". The two things I didn't like were that 1) with the remote and all the options they COULD give, they didn't give you the option of soft or half power, so if you were using them while watching a movie or a romance turned on in the evening they were softer but brighter for other events. 2) The options on the remote control are ridiculous and give the impression that you have a choice of templates when in fact you don't. When you pull up the beat you like; For me it would be a nice soft, even shimmer that only lasts a few seconds and then shifts to a different pattern and rhythm that is completely independent. If it were music, it would be like a transition from smooth classics to heavy, screaming rock. One minute I had a gentle relaxing flicker and the next I had a strong flicker like a cheap used car neon sign! They not only change, but are not connected and have different moods. I'd like to have some takes where the pattern would be just A, then just B, and then another for C. If they wanted, they could then have a take that goes through all of those cycles. However, each take jumps from one pattern to another, and they're not patterns that keep the same vibe. This can be very distracting when you want to create a calm atmosphere. I know there are some that do, if that's what you're looking for, keep shopping. As for me, I've already hung them up and don't expect this product to last a long time so I'll keep them, but I'm quite disappointed. The purpose of the different settings on the remote was to give us a choice, and we don't really have a choice when each setting has multiple cycles.
