This welder is rated for 120 or 240 volts but the plug provided is rated for 120 volts. If you want to use it with more than 80 amps you will need to make a 240 volt adapter (or in my case cut the plug and plug in a 240 volt plug instead). 20 amp circuit. Sometimes the breaker trips when I turn on the device for the first time. I bought this welder partially to see what I could do with the cheapest 240 volt inverter welder (that was at the time of purchase). As long as he does what he has to do. I have sometimes worked with very thick steel (1/2 inch or thicker). If I were to buy another welder, I would go for the one with the hot start function. There are better welders out there, but it's hard to beat the price of this one.
