Light matte finish, very bright - overall great value

In the interest of full disclosure, I received this item for free in exchange for an honest review. The following review is my honest opinion. I've been looking for a light pad to use for various projects in my studio for a while. My main criteria was that it should be light and very bright, and it definitely fits both. The lightweight spacer is very thin (1/4 inch by my standards) and weighs about the same as a thin magazine. It fits easily between the books on my bookshelf for easy storage. I've tried to take a few shots to help show the brightness but of course it's a little difficult to get it right in front of the camera. However, it is very bright at the highest settings - the attached image showing the squirrel uses a 140lb (300g) piece of Strathmore watercolor paper and as you can see the image is bright and clear and bleeds easily to edit. The brightness can be adjusted by pressing and holding the power button. I also took a picture to show the matte finish of the fretboard which is a definite plus. I need a lot of light when I work and I constantly struggle with glare on different surfaces. The matte finish significantly reduces any glare. I was a bit concerned that the texture would show up in my sketches, but even with thin carbon paper I was able to get clear, get sharp lines. The surface is a little slippery, making it difficult to weed even with magnets. but I found that a piece of water paper is placed between the pad and the vinyl to take the slickness down a bit. Please note that weeding can leave marks on the pad, which will happen with almost any plastic light pad, but if you use it purely for weeding, this is not a problem. If you also want to keep the design in mind, I would suggest buying a second light bar and using it solely for weeding. At this price, the second block is not a serious investment at all. I honestly tried to find fault with this rug but for its current price this is excellent value for money. There might be no frills, but if brightness and a low profile are your biggest concerns, this is a solid choice. but if you use it exclusively for weeding, then this is not a problem.
