Requires BIOS setting change to work

First test of WD 19 Dock with XPS 13 9380. Since the last BIOS update 9380 I've only had problems with the dock. Problems include an intermittent connection to the monitor, malfunctioning with a simple USB switching hub, and repeated computer shutdowns that require a forced restart. I followed all the instructions when connecting this new dock and encountered the same issues. Then I came across this article: Dell USB-C and Thunderbolt Docks (WD15, TB16, TB18DC, WD19, WD19TB, WD19DC, D6000) - Troubleshooting BIOS settings and driver installation. USB-C and Thunderbolt Docking Stations WD15, TB16, TB18DC, WD19, WD19TB, WD19DC and D6000. Last Modified: March 13, 2020 Article ID: SLN308303 I followed the instructions to update the BIOS settings and the dock is now working properly. Note that NOT all of the options mentioned are available in the 9380 BIOS, including "Enable USB Power Sharing" and "Enable USB-C Dock Support". At the moment the dock is working. I had to connect a USB hub to the docking station's front USB port. I hope this helps and good luck. DELL could have addressed these issues more clearly.

Pros
  • So far so good
Cons
  • Low maintainability
