Review on Nikon 24-120mm f/4G ED Vibration Reduction Zoom Lens with Auto Focus - AF-S FX NIKKOR for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Haruto Asahi ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A very high-quality product, I take it not for the first time.

In general, I am very pleased with the lens. Talk about f / 4 there and therefore dark - this is for girls. Stupidly we set instead of ISO200 - ISO400 and all stops are half as much, set ISO800 and we can assume that you have f / 1.0 (just kidding .) For FF type D600, ISO400 is absolutely working, if there are no special tasks for super sharpness and a super-large image, then you can easily drive up to ISO1600. Further - on the fan, of course. Regarding the depth of field - at f / 4, as it is not surprising, but on cameras with FF - this aperture is enough for portraits. Fifty dollars with f / 1.4 is too much, the depth of field is so small that the sharpness in one eye - and the second is no longer sharp, it looks not like an artistic blur, but like a focus error. In a word, for all FF cameras, the depth of field is for some reason reduced. There was an article on this topic, you can google it. For those who doubt the choice, there is a very good review without hidden advertising and other marketing there (in English, but easily translated by google. Translator, since this is our former compatriot) http://photographylife. Com/reviews/nikon-24-120mm-f4g-vr Personally, it was this review that pulled me over from 24-70 f / 2.8, and after the purchase I was once again convinced that it was not bought in vain! All the best pictures!

Pros
  • Convenient focal lengths, the best travel zoom for a full frame camera. Sharp at f / 4, and at FF this aperture is really enough to create depth of field! I don’t quite understand the physical meaning of this phenomenon, but the fact is, you can really shoot portraits on 4-ke, at 75-120 it turns out just magically, I didn’t expect it! It's nice to have a stabilizer. Really pulls out during night shooting, when there is no tripod and stop. Very, again, VERY nice picture! All sorts of different tests of MTF, XA, distortion, vignetting and so on, which various forums abound in many - all this is nonsense, against the "beautiful" picture. Those who have been shooting on film for many years still remember lenses for Olympus Zuiko, old Nikon glasses, and so on. Unfortunately, the "beauty" of the picture is a subjective thing - but, here, it's really obvious. On FF you can see that this is the "correct" lens in the picture. Very reminiscent of 16-85 f / 3.5-5.6 for APS. Obviously, it is not a portrait or landscape lens, just a good lens for all occasions for FF, which, with proper processing of NEF negatives, allows you to get the most out of the matrix and out of the picture.
Cons
  • Heavy. In reality, the D600 with fifty dollars and with it is heaven and earth. Convenient for almost all cases, but heavy. Chromatitis, but easy to treat with a one-click NEFF to FS converter. It distorts at the wide end, and this can also be treated in FS, but . the picture is no longer the same. Group portraits are best avoided. Sucked up the dust. It is not visible in the picture, but these dust particles are straining ;-) Hefty filters, if anyone uses. The front lens is really hefty, leaving it without a protective filter is blasphemy, and a good 77 mm filter is about 1000!
