Review on 🚲 Thule Gateway Bike Carrier: The Ultimate Solution for Easy and Secure Bike Transportation by Brandon Reid

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Complicated instructions and expensive ONE bike carrier

This carrier has more straps than shown in the photos. Written by an engineer, the instructions are difficult but not impossible to follow. A guide for all carrier models and all cars of all years including SUVs. You browse the tables to find the most appropriate setting. The kit does not include a bungee to stabilize the front wheel. When you install it, about 30 minutes the first time, 5-10 minutes after, you will have a lot of straps left. You need straps to control 4 straps or you can just cut them off but then you can never change car if another car needs more straps. It's a solid, well-made device, but for the price they could have spent more time on instructions and even shown some photos instead of drawings. Can you spell Rube Goldberg? Although the product is well made and serves its purpose, I would go for a cheaper medium for the price. After a few months of use, here are a few more observations: 1. Easy to assemble and disassemble the rack and the bike.2. The small clips that attach to the trunk are made of metal. For the price they should be covered in rubber as they rattle against the car paint.3. The "fixed mount" does not stay in place. It extends to the end of the rack.4. We were trying to transport 2 bikes and it didn't even come close. We would have had to remove the cranks on one of the bikes to mount 2 bikes. The part that hooks onto the tote bag and stops the bike from rocking doesn't seem to be available as a part.
